Streams

This was one of the rare moments that a composition revealed itself quickly- it felt like a stream of consciousness. Inspired by Kenny Wheeler’s Music for Large and Small Ensemble, the melody builds on itself phrase by phrase.

“Cool Life!”

I moved to Baltimore with my girlfriend two years ago from Bloomington, Indiana, and we repeated this mantra: “Look at our new, cool life!” This composition, featuring lyrics by vocalist Maggie Kinney, captures my gratitude for my latest chapter in the DMV.
